Service Advisor Jobs Near You
The translator between the customer and the technician. The job is accuracy and communication, in that order.
Inside the Role
A service advisor is not a middleman; they are the reason a repair goes right. A symptom written up badly is a fault diagnosed badly.
What the Work Is
Meeting customers on the drive, taking in the symptom accurately enough for a technician to work from, writing the repair order, explaining what the technician found in language that makes sense, keeping the customer informed while the car is in, and closing the visit properly.
What You Bring
Organisation, patience and clear writing. Enough mechanical understanding to ask the right follow-up question, though you do not need to be a technician. Comfort delivering news somebody did not want.
Who It Suits
Somebody who is good with people and precise on paper. It is one of the few roles in the building where being organised beats being mechanical — though both help.
How to Put Your Name Forward

Service Advisor Jobs in Mobile, AL
Writing the symptom, not the diagnosis
The single most useful thing an advisor does is capture what the customer actually experiences — when it happens, at what speed, hot or cold — rather than guessing at a cause. A technician can work from the first and is misled by the second.
A store where customers come back
Much of the traffic through a franchised service drive is people the store sold to. That changes the job: the person in front of you is likely to be in front of you again, and the relationship is worth more than any single ticket.
Role Questions
Do I need to be a technician?⌄
No. You need enough mechanical understanding to ask a good follow-up question. The rest is organisation and communication.
Does dealership experience matter?⌄
It helps, but people come to this role from other service industries and do well. Tell us what you have done.
What is the hardest part of the job?⌄
Telling somebody their car needs work they were not expecting, clearly and without overselling it. If you can do that honestly, the rest is learnable.
What does this role pay, and what does it come with?⌄
That is a conversation rather than a line on a web page, and it depends on the role and on your experience. We would rather discuss it properly than publish something that turns out not to apply to you.
