On the other side, the MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF are rear-wheel-drive two-seaters with a six-speed manual as standard, and the only meaningful difference between them is the roof: a fabric top you fold by hand, or a power retractable hardtop that adds quiet and a little weight. Both seat two and carry about four and a half cubic feet, so neither is a second family car.

What is the difference between the Mazda3 Sedan and the Mazda3 Hatchback?⌄
The engines, the trims and the available all-wheel drive are the same — the difference is behind the rear seat. The Sedan has a separate 13.2 cu ft trunk; the Hatchback has a tailgate and 20.1 cu ft of cargo space, opening to 47.1 cu ft with the seat folded. The Hatchback is also EPA-rated slightly lower on combined economy. If you carry bulky things, the Hatchback; if you prefer a lockable, separate boot and the quieter cabin that comes with it, the Sedan.
What is the difference between the MX-5 Miata and the MX-5 Miata RF?⌄
The roof, and almost nothing else. Both are rear-wheel-drive two-seaters with the same 181 hp engine, the same EPA-estimated 29 mpg combined and a six-speed manual as standard. The MX-5 Miata has a fabric top you fold by hand; the RF has a power retractable hardtop, which is quieter with the roof up and costs the trunk about a tenth of a cubic foot. The RF is also offered in fewer trims.
Can I get a Mazda car with all-wheel drive?⌄
On the Mazda3, yes: i-ACTIV AWD® is standard on two of the five trims — the 2.5 S Carbon Edition and the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus — on both the Sedan and the Hatchback, and the other three trims are front-wheel drive. Neither MX-5 Miata body offers all-wheel drive at any trim; both are rear-wheel drive. If all-wheel drive throughout the range matters to you, every trim of every Mazda SUV has it as standard.
Do the MX-5 Miata models come with a manual gearbox?⌄
A six-speed manual is standard on both, and a six-speed automatic is available on Grand Touring. It is one of the few cars still sold that way, and it is a large part of why people buy them.
