It is the earliest model year this research covers for the Mazda CX-50, so what Mazda published before it is not stated here. The Severe Condition List Is This Span’s Own
Mazda names five conditions for these model years, and two of them — driving under extremely high temperature conditions, and driving regularly for short distances only — come off the list entirely on the following model year, which names three different ones. So whether a car driven in Mobile heat is on the severe oil interval has one answer for these years and a different answer for a newer CX-50, from Mazda’s own wording rather than from anybody’s reasoning.

Mazda prints, for the CX-50: if you drive your vehicle under any of the following conditions, follow the severe driving scheduled maintenance and replace the engine oil and filter every 8,000 km (5,000 miles) or 6 months, whichever comes first; otherwise follow the normal driving scheduled maintenance intervals. The vehicle is idled for long periods or driven at low speeds, such as with police cars, taxis or a driver’s education school car; driving under dusty conditions; driving for long periods in cold temperatures or driving regularly for short distances only; driving under extremely high temperature conditions; and driving continuously in mountainous regions.

Mazda prints it in as many words: follow the maintenance interval listed in the normal driving scheduled maintenance. The air filter stays at 30,000 miles, the cabin air filter at 30,000 miles or 24 months, the chassis rows at 20,000 miles and the disc brakes at 10,000 miles, whichever schedule the car is on.
