The retractable hardtop’s drainage outlets are the one maintenance item that is genuinely this nameplate’s and not the soft top’s, and Mazda tightened that cadence twice in earlier model years — from once a year to once every 6 months, then to once every 2 months at MY2023. At this boundary it did not move a third time: the MY2026 book prints the same “at least once every 2 months” cadence with the same 300 ml water flush poured slowly, unchanged from MY2023–2025.

So the 5,000-mile oil figure is not the severe interval for every MX-5 Miata RF driven in severe conditions — it is the fixed one.

Schedule 2 — Severe Driving
The severe-driving table, and the two rows it changes that most severe schedules do not.
Every 5,000 Miles or 6 Months
Engine oil and filter on the fixed basis, disc brakes, engine coolant level, brake and clutch fluid level, tire inflation pressure and tire wear, function of all lights, all locks and hinges lubricated, and washer fluid level. Tire rotation runs at the same cadence and is printed as a sentence: rotate every 8,000 km (5,000 miles).
Manual Transmission Oil — Halved
Mazda prints, on Schedule 1: replace every 96,000 km (60,000 miles) or 4 years. On Schedule 2 it prints: replace every 48,000 km (30,000 miles) or 2 years. Severe driving on this car does not only shorten the oil change — it doubles how often the gearbox oil is replaced, which is a real difference in what a customer pays for.
Every 15,000 Miles or 18 Months
Fuel lines and hoses, brake lines, hoses and connections, steering operation and linkages, front and rear suspension with ball joints and wheel bearing axial play, driveshaft dust boots, and the bolts and nuts on the chassis and body. The same rows sit at every 15,000 miles or 24 months on Schedule 1 — the mileage matches and the month figure does not.
The Longer Severe Rows
Every 20,000 miles or 24 months — drive belts. Every 30,000 miles or 36 months — air filter, and hoses and tubes for emission. At 35,000 miles, once — exhaust system and heat shields. Spark plugs and engine coolant carry the same figures they carry on Schedule 1, and the emergency flat tire repair kit is inspected annually. Mazda adds one note to the severe air filter row: if the vehicle is operated in very dusty or sandy areas, clean and if necessary replace the air filter more often than the recommended intervals.
