Mazda Battery Replacement

Mazda names the battery your car left the factory with and tells you to match or exceed it. What Mazda does not publish, on any model in the 2026 lineup, is a mileage or an age at which to replace it. A battery is a condition item, so the useful answer comes from testing it rather than from a schedule.

What the Battery Visit Covers

Testing first, because Mazda gives no interval that would make replacement automatic.

The battery tested under load and the charging system checked, so the answer is about this battery rather than about its age.
Replacement with a battery matching or exceeding the specification Mazda prints for your model, which differs across the lineup.
On the electrified models, a note on what Mazda does and does not schedule for the high-voltage battery — which is nothing, on all five.
Open recall and safety-campaign work checked against your vehicle identification number while the car is here, and carried out in the same visit where parts allow.

What Mazda Publishes

One specification per model, no interval anywhere, and one hybrid-specific item that is a filter rather than a battery.

The 12-Volt Battery
Specified, Not Scheduled
Mazda names the battery for each model and instructs that a replacement match or exceed it. There is no replacement row in any scheduled maintenance table.
So a battery is replaced when it tests weak or fails, not when it reaches a mileage. We test rather than assume.
The High-Voltage Battery
No Service Interval Published
Mazda’s schedules for the CX-50 Hybrid, CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid, and for the CX-70 and CX-90, contain no high-voltage battery service, inspection or replacement row of any kind.
There is no hybrid-battery "health check interval" to sell on Mazda’s schedule, and this page states none.
The One Hybrid Item That Is Scheduled
Every 20,000 Miles or 24 Months
The CX-50 Hybrid’s high-voltage battery cooling intake filter is cleaned every 20,000 miles or 24 months. It is the only hybrid-specific scheduled item in the whole family.
It is a filter that keeps the battery cool, not a service on the battery itself. The distinction matters and Mazda draws it.

Sourced from the Scheduled Maintenance section of each model’s 2026 Mazda owner’s manual. Your own manual is the authority for your vehicle; bring the mileage and our team will read the table with you.

Which Battery Your Mazda Takes

Mazda prints these per model, and they are not interchangeable.

Mazda3 Sedan & Mazda3 Hatchback

Mazda lists LN2 (12V-60Ah/20HR), 55D23L (12V-55Ah/20HR) or 75D23L (12V-65Ah/20HR), and says to match or exceed the one fitted.

CX-50 and CX-50 Hybrid

The CX-50 takes LN3 (12V-72Ah/20HR) with i-stop and LN2 (12V-60Ah/20HR) without. The CX-50 Hybrid takes LN2 (12V-55Ah/20HR) — a different LN2 rating from its gas sibling.

CX-70, CX-90 and the Plug-In Hybrids

The CX-70 and CX-90 take 75D23L (12V-65Ah/20HR) or 80D26L (12V-65Ah/20HR). The CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid take a Q-85.

MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF

Mazda specifies a 46B24L (S) (12V-45Ah/20HR), the smallest in the family, and prints one specification for both body styles.

Does Gulf Coast Heat Shorten Battery Life?

Heat is hard on batteries, but Mazda publishes no battery interval to shorten and no climate-based battery rule anywhere in the lineup. What Mazda’s severe conditions do govern is set out below, and a battery is not among the items.

Eight Models: No Weather Condition at All

On the Mazda3 Sedan, Mazda3 Hatchback, CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid, CX-90 and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid, Mazda lists three severe-driving conditions: extended idling or low-speed operation, driving mainly on unpaved or dusty roads, and driving mainly on mountain or uphill roads. Heat, humidity and rain are not on the list. If none of those describes how you drive, Mazda’s normal schedule is the one for your car.

CX-50 Hybrid: A Fourth Condition, for Load

The CX-50 Hybrid carries the same three conditions plus one more, and it is about load rather than weather: a heavily loaded vehicle — towing a trailer, using a camper, using a car-top carrier. Mazda maps that fourth condition to the transmission fluid and both differential oils, inspected at 20,000 miles and replaced at 40,000 miles, and not to the oil.

CX-5: Humidity Counts, Item by Item

The CX-5 is the one model where Mazda maps each severe condition to specific items rather than to the whole car. Extremely humid climates and extensive brake use move the brake fluid to annual replacement; short trips, extreme heat and heavy rain move the drive belt inspection to every oil change. Mazda triggers the 5,000-mile oil interval only from prolonged idling, unpaved or dusty roads and sustained mountain driving.

MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF: Schedule 2

These two work differently again. Mazda lists nine severe conditions and any one of them moves the car to Schedule 2 in full — and extremely hot conditions, extremely humid climates and repeated short-distance driving are all on that list. Schedule 2 brings 5,000-mile tire rotations, 5,000-mile brake inspections and 30,000-mile manual transmission oil. The oil itself stays on the flexible wrench-indicator interval unless the car is idled heavily or driven in dust.

Have it tested before it decides for you — a load test takes minutes.

There Is No Mazda Battery Interval

Across all twelve 2026 models, Mazda gives a battery specification and no replacement schedule. That is why a test is worth more than a date: it describes the battery you have rather than the average of batteries in general.

The High-Voltage Battery Is Not on a Schedule Either

On the CX-50 Hybrid, CX-70, CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid, CX-90 and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid, Mazda’s maintenance tables contain no high-voltage battery row at all. The CX-50 Hybrid’s battery cooling intake filter, cleaned every 20,000 miles or 24 months, is the only related item Mazda schedules.

Mazda Battery Replacement Questions

How often should a Mazda battery be replaced?

Mazda publishes no replacement interval for any 2026 model in this lineup. It specifies which battery the car takes and says a replacement should match or exceed it. Replacement is driven by how the battery tests, not by a mileage.

What battery does my Mazda take?

It varies by model: LN2, 55D23L or 75D23L on the Mazda3 pair; LN3 or LN2 on the CX-50 depending on i-stop; LN2 on the CX-50 Hybrid; 75D23L or 80D26L on the CX-70 and CX-90; Q-85 on both plug-in hybrids; and 46B24L (S) on the MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF.

Does the hybrid battery need servicing?

Mazda schedules none. There is no high-voltage battery service, inspection or replacement row in the maintenance table of any electrified model in this lineup. The only related scheduled item is the CX-50 Hybrid’s battery cooling intake filter, cleaned every 20,000 miles or 24 months.

How much is a Mazda battery?

Battery pricing depends on the specification your model takes and is kept on the service offers page rather than written into this one.
