Mazda Brake Calipers
Mazda’s schedule has no caliper row. What it has is a disc brake inspection — the row that covers the caliper, the pads and the disc together — plus a separate inspection of the brake lines, hoses and connections. A caliper is replaced or rebuilt because it is sticking, leaking or seized, and those are findings rather than dates.
What the Caliper Inspection Covers
The caliper is inspected as part of the disc brake row Mazda schedules, and judged on how it is working rather than on how far the car has gone.

The Rows That Reach the Caliper
Three sourced rows, and one absence that is worth stating outright.

Fluid, Parts and What Is Missing
What Mazda names for the braking system, scoped to the models it names it for.
Brake Fluid Grade
Mazda specifies SAE J1703 or FMVSS116 DOT-3 for the Mazda3 pair, CX-30, CX-5, CX-50 and both MX-5 body styles. On the CX-50 Hybrid, CX-70, CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid, CX-90 and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid it says only Mazda Genuine Brake Fluid or equivalent and names no DOT grade.
No Pad or Rotor Mileage
Mazda publishes no replacement mileage for brake pads or rotors on any of the twelve models, because how long they last is a wear question. That applies to the caliper too.
The Vacuum Brake Booster
Mazda inspects the vacuum brake booster and hose every 20,000 miles or 24 months on the Mazda3 pair, CX-30, CX-5 and CX-50. The CX-50 Hybrid, CX-70, CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid, CX-90 and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid have no such row, so no interval is quoted for them.
Genuine Mazda Parts
Where a caliper or a hardware kit is replaced, it is a genuine Mazda part built to the specification the car left the factory with.
Does Heavy Braking Change the Schedule?
On the CX-5 it moves the brake fluid, and on the MX-5 pair it moves the whole car to Schedule 2 and its 5,000-mile brake inspections. On the other eight models Mazda’s severe list touches only the oil.
Eight Models: No Weather Condition at All
On the Mazda3 Sedan, Mazda3 Hatchback, CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid, CX-90 and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid, Mazda lists three severe-driving conditions: extended idling or low-speed operation, driving mainly on unpaved or dusty roads, and driving mainly on mountain or uphill roads. Heat, humidity and rain are not on the list. If none of those describes how you drive, Mazda’s normal schedule is the one for your car.
CX-50 Hybrid: A Fourth Condition, for Load
The CX-50 Hybrid carries the same three conditions plus one more, and it is about load rather than weather: a heavily loaded vehicle — towing a trailer, using a camper, using a car-top carrier. Mazda maps that fourth condition to the transmission fluid and both differential oils, inspected at 20,000 miles and replaced at 40,000 miles, and not to the oil.
CX-5: Humidity Counts, Item by Item
The CX-5 is the one model where Mazda maps each severe condition to specific items rather than to the whole car. Extremely humid climates and extensive brake use move the brake fluid to annual replacement; short trips, extreme heat and heavy rain move the drive belt inspection to every oil change. Mazda triggers the 5,000-mile oil interval only from prolonged idling, unpaved or dusty roads and sustained mountain driving.
MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF: Schedule 2
These two work differently again. Mazda lists nine severe conditions and any one of them moves the car to Schedule 2 in full — and extremely hot conditions, extremely humid climates and repeated short-distance driving are all on that list. Schedule 2 brings 5,000-mile tire rotations, 5,000-mile brake inspections and 30,000-mile manual transmission oil. The oil itself stays on the flexible wrench-indicator interval unless the car is idled heavily or driven in dust.

Mazda Inspects, and Does Not Date, the Caliper
The disc brake inspection is scheduled at 10,000 miles or 12 months on ten of the twelve models and at 7,500 miles on the MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF under Schedule 1. It is the row that covers the caliper. There is no separate caliper interval anywhere in the lineup.
What a Failing Caliper Does
A caliper that is not releasing wears one pad far faster than its partner, and that shows up in the same inspection. It is one of the reasons the pad measurement is worth taking seriously even when nothing sounds wrong.
Mazda Brake Caliper Service Questions
How often do Mazda brake calipers need servicing?⌄
Mazda publishes no caliper interval on any 2026 model. The caliper is covered by the disc brake inspection, scheduled at every 10,000 miles or 12 months on ten of the twelve models and every 7,500 miles or 12 months on the MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF under Schedule 1.
What are the signs of a sticking caliper?⌄
Uneven pad wear across an axle, a pull under braking, heat or smell from one wheel, or a pad that is nearly gone on one side and healthy on the other. All of those are findings from an inspection rather than something a mileage predicts.
What brake fluid does my Mazda use?⌄
Mazda specifies SAE J1703 or FMVSS116 DOT-3 for the Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback, CX-30, CX-5, CX-50 and both MX-5 body styles. For the CX-50 Hybrid, CX-70, CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid, CX-90 and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid it names Mazda Genuine Brake Fluid or equivalent without a DOT grade.
How much is Mazda caliper service?⌄
It depends entirely on what the inspection finds, so a figure written into this page would be meaningless. Current service offers are on the service offers page.
