Mazda Maintenance
The single most useful thing to know about Mazda maintenance is that there is no lineup-wide interval. Mazda prints a scheduled maintenance table per model, and those tables disagree with each other on purpose. Reading one model’s number onto another is the most common way a maintenance answer goes wrong.
What a Maintenance Visit Covers
Whatever your model’s table marks at that mileage, which is a different list at 10,000 miles than at 60,000.

Twelve Models, Twelve Schedules
Three of the items people ask about most, each with its real per-model split.
Sourced from the Scheduled Maintenance section of each model’s 2026 Mazda owner’s manual. Your own manual is the authority for your vehicle; bring the mileage and our team will read the table with you.
What Mazda Names by Name
Where Mazda is specific, it is worth following exactly.
Three Oil Viscosities
SAE 0W-20 on most of the lineup, SAE 5W-30 on the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5T versions of four models, and SAE 0W-16 on the CX-50 Hybrid alone.
FL-22 Coolant
Named across the lineup, with Mazda’s own warning that using anything else may cause serious damage to the engine and cooling system.
Where Mazda Publishes Nothing
No brake pad or rotor replacement mileage on any model, no fuel filter interval on any model, and no spark plug interval in months on any model. Those are real answers, and this family of pages gives them as answers rather than filling them in.
What Counts as Severe Driving Here
Marketing tends to assume Gulf Coast weather makes every car a severe-service case. Mazda’s own documents mostly say otherwise, and the exceptions are specific.
Eight Models: No Weather Condition at All
On the Mazda3 Sedan, Mazda3 Hatchback, CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid, CX-90 and CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid, Mazda lists three severe-driving conditions: extended idling or low-speed operation, driving mainly on unpaved or dusty roads, and driving mainly on mountain or uphill roads. Heat, humidity and rain are not on the list. If none of those describes how you drive, Mazda’s normal schedule is the one for your car.
CX-50 Hybrid: A Fourth Condition, for Load
The CX-50 Hybrid carries the same three conditions plus one more, and it is about load rather than weather: a heavily loaded vehicle — towing a trailer, using a camper, using a car-top carrier. Mazda maps that fourth condition to the transmission fluid and both differential oils, inspected at 20,000 miles and replaced at 40,000 miles, and not to the oil.
CX-5: Humidity Counts, Item by Item
The CX-5 is the one model where Mazda maps each severe condition to specific items rather than to the whole car. Extremely humid climates and extensive brake use move the brake fluid to annual replacement; short trips, extreme heat and heavy rain move the drive belt inspection to every oil change. Mazda triggers the 5,000-mile oil interval only from prolonged idling, unpaved or dusty roads and sustained mountain driving.
MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF: Schedule 2
These two work differently again. Mazda lists nine severe conditions and any one of them moves the car to Schedule 2 in full — and extremely hot conditions, extremely humid climates and repeated short-distance driving are all on that list. Schedule 2 brings 5,000-mile tire rotations, 5,000-mile brake inspections and 30,000-mile manual transmission oil. The oil itself stays on the flexible wrench-indicator interval unless the car is idled heavily or driven in dust.
Mazda Maintenance Near Mobile, AL
Dean McCrary Mazda carries out Mazda scheduled maintenance at our service department on the I-65 Service Road in Mobile, working from your model’s own table rather than a generic interval.
There Is No Lineup-Wide Mazda Interval
Engine oil and filter runs to 10,000 miles or 12 months on ten of the twelve, while the MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF are on a flexible interval with a 12-month or 7,500-mile ceiling. Tire rotation takes three different figures. Spark plugs run anywhere from 40,000 to 120,000 miles, and four models carry two figures because they are sold with two engines.
The Wrench Indicator Is Part of the System
Mazda uses a vehicle status monitor across this lineup and states on the CX-5 that the indicator comes on before the maximum interval is reached. The printed mileages are a ceiling rather than a target.
Mazda Maintenance Questions
How often does a Mazda need maintenance?⌄
It depends on the model, and that is Mazda’s design rather than an evasion. Oil and filter is every 10,000 miles or 12 months on ten of the twelve 2026 models; the MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF use a flexible interval governed by the wrench indicator with a 12-month or 7,500-mile ceiling.
Is Mazda maintenance included when I buy the car?⌄
Coverage varies by programme and by vehicle, so the reliable answer comes from your own paperwork rather than from a page. Our service team can confirm what applies to your vehicle when you book.
Does Mobile weather put my Mazda on the severe schedule?⌄
On eight of the twelve models, no — Mazda’s severe list for them is idling, unpaved roads and mountain roads, none of which is climatic. The exceptions are the CX-5, where extremely humid climates move the brake fluid to annual, and the MX-5 pair, where heat or humidity move the whole car to Schedule 2.
How much is Mazda maintenance?⌄
It depends which items are due at your mileage. Current offers are on the service offers page, which is kept up to date rather than written into pages like this one.
