2017 Mazda CX-5 Maintenance Schedule
Mazda revised the CX-5’s published U.S. schedule repeatedly through this generation, and this model year is one of the revisions. Its Schedule 1 oil ceiling is 12 months or 7,500 miles; three of its rows are performed at the oil change with a ceiling rather than at fixed grid marks; and its severe table spaces the brake, chassis and steering rows further apart than later CX-5 tables do. This page states that model year’s own two tables and no other year’s.

Mazda Published This Table for This Model Year Alone
Mazda revised the published schedule at this model year. It revised it again at the next one, so this table belongs to this model year and to no other. What that means for the table below is set out in the cards that follow.
Three Rows Are Timed to the Oil Change
Mazda prints the Schedule 1 air filter as replace at any equivalent timing of replacing engine oil, with a maximum interval of 36 months or 60,000 km (37,500 miles); the cabin air filter the same way with a maximum of 24 months or 48,000 km (30,000 miles); and the tire rotation the same way with a maximum of 12,000 km (7,500 miles). Later CX-5 tables mark all three at fixed columns instead, at markedly shorter intervals. A ceiling is not an interval, and this page states them as Mazda prints them.
The Oil Ceiling Is 12 Months or 7,500 Miles
Schedule 1 prints: replace when the wrench indicator light is ON, with a maximum interval of 12 months or 12,000 km (7,500 miles). The model year before this one is on a longer ceiling and a different eight-column grid altogether, which is why it is not covered here. From this model year on, the eight Schedule 1 columns are the ones described below.
The Severe Table Is Spaced Wider
On Schedule 2 this model year inspects the disc brakes every 10,000 miles or 12 months; the drive belts every 30,000 miles or 36 months; and the fuel lines, brake lines, steering, suspension, driveshaft dust boots and chassis bolts every 20,000 miles or 24 months, with the emission hoses and tubes marked once at 40,000 miles. Every one of those rows is tightened on the following model year’s table, so a severe schedule carried in either direction across that boundary is wrong in one direction or the other.
One Spark Plug Row, and No Turbo or Diesel Block
Mazda prints a single spark-plug row for this model year — replace every 120,000 km (75,000 miles) — with no separate turbocharged row and no SKYACTIV®-D 2.2 block. The rear differential oil and transfer oil rows are printed on both schedules carrying a footnote and no interval at all.

Mazda’s Own Condition List
Repeated short-distance driving; driving in dusty conditions; driving with extended use of brakes; driving in areas where salt or other corrosive materials are used; driving on rough or muddy roads; extended periods of idling or low-speed operation; driving for long periods in cold temperatures or extremely humid climates; driving in extremely hot conditions; driving in mountainous conditions continually. Mazda prints: follow Schedule 1 if none of these apply, and if any do apply, follow Schedule 2.
It Is the Whole Car, Not One Row
On this model year a single condition moves the entire schedule to Schedule 2. The current CX-5’s manual does something different: it maps each condition to specific items and leaves every other row on its normal interval. Two different models of severe service, and neither may be written the other one’s way — which is the main reason this page exists separately from its parent.
Flexible and Fixed Are a Separate Question
Mazda’s flexible engine-oil maintenance is offered to U.S.A. and Puerto Rico residents whose car is not operated with extended periods of idling or low-speed operation, such as a police car, taxi or driving-school car, and is not driven in dusty conditions. Where either applies, fixed maintenance is followed — engine oil and filter every 5,000 miles or 6 months — even on Schedule 2. So the 5,000-mile oil figure is not the severe interval for every CX-5 driven in severe conditions.
Rows That Are Not for This Market
The same manual prints a Canada residents table and a separate Mexico section. Neither is quoted on this page, and a change Mazda made only to the Canada table is not a change to the table a Mobile CX-5 is read on. Schedule 2 — Severe Driving
The severe-driving table for this model year, whose brake, chassis and steering rows are spaced wider than any later CX-5’s.
Every 5,000 Miles or 6 Months
Engine oil and filter on the fixed basis, engine coolant level, brake and clutch fluid level, tire inflation pressure and tire wear, function of all lights, all locks and hinges lubricated, and washer fluid level. Tire rotation is timed to the oil change on this model year rather than marked at a column, with a maximum interval of 8,000 km (5,000 miles).
Disc Brakes Every 10,000 Miles
Mazda marks the severe disc-brake inspection at every other column on this model year — every 10,000 miles or 12 months — where later CX-5 tables mark it at every column. It is a Schedule 2 figure and is stated here as one; Schedule 1 inspects the disc brakes every 7,500 miles or 12 months.
Every 20,000 Miles or 24 Months
Fuel lines and hoses, brake lines, hoses and connections, steering operation and linkages, front and rear suspension with ball joints and wheel bearing axial play, driveshaft dust boots, and the bolts and nuts on the chassis and body, which are tightened rather than inspected. The same rows sit at every 15,000 miles or 24 months on Schedule 1 — the months match and the mileage does not, which is exactly why the two tables are quoted separately.
The Longer Severe Rows
Every 30,000 miles or 36 months — drive belts. At 40,000 miles, once — hoses and tubes for emission. At 35,000 miles or 42 months, once — exhaust system and heat shields. The air filter and the cabin air filter are timed to the oil change here as they are on Schedule 1, with maximum intervals of 36 months or 37,500 miles and 24 months or 30,000 miles. Spark plugs and engine coolant carry the same figures they carry on Schedule 1, and the emergency flat tire repair kit is inspected annually. Rear differential oil and transfer oil are printed with the same submerged-in-water footnote and no interval.

Mazda revised the CX-5’s published U.S. schedule repeatedly through this generation, and this model year is one of the revisions.
