2018 Mazda CX-5 Maintenance Schedule
Mazda revised the CX-5’s published U.S. schedule repeatedly through this generation, and this model year is where three Schedule 1 rows change basis at once. They stop being performed at the oil change and become fixed grid marks; the severe disc brake, drive belt and chassis rows all tighten; and the table still prints one spark plug row for every engine. This page states that model year’s own two tables and no other year’s.

Three Rows Move onto the Grid
The air filter, the cabin air filter and the tire rotation stop being performed at the oil change with a ceiling and become fixed marks on this model year’s table: the air filter every 22,500 miles or 36 months, the cabin air filter every 15,000 miles or 24 months, and a printed sentence for the tires — rotate every 12,000 km (7,500 miles). The model year before it publishes only a much longer ceiling for all three, so a figure carried backward across this boundary understates that car and one carried forward overstates this one.
The Severe Table Tightens
On Schedule 2 the disc brakes move to every one of the twelve columns, every 5,000 miles; the drive belts to every 20,000 miles; the fuel lines, brake lines, steering, suspension, driveshaft dust boots and chassis bolts to every 15,000 miles; and the emission hoses and tubes to every 30,000 miles. The cabin air filter is printed as a sentence on the severe table: replace every 48,000 km (30,000 miles) or 2 years.
One Spark Plug Row, and No Diesel Block
Mazda prints a single spark-plug row for this model year — replace every 120,000 km (75,000 miles) — with no separate turbocharged row and no SKYACTIV®-D 2.2 block; both arrive on the following model year’s table. The rear differential oil and transfer oil rows are absent from Schedule 1 altogether and appear on Schedule 2 carrying a footnote and no interval.
What Did Not Move After This
This is the earliest CX-5 model year whose stated intervals match the tables Mazda printed at the end of this generation. What changes after it is which engines the table covers and which footnote-only rows are printed — not the intervals themselves, with the single exception of a severe cabin air filter that moves for one model year and moves back. Those figures are stated here because this model year’s own manual prints them.

Mazda’s Own Condition List
Repeated short-distance driving; driving in dusty conditions; driving with extended use of brakes; driving in areas where salt or other corrosive materials are used; driving on rough or muddy roads; extended periods of idling or low-speed operation; driving for long periods in cold temperatures or extremely humid climates; driving in extremely hot conditions; driving in mountainous conditions continually. Mazda prints: follow Schedule 1 if none of these apply, and if any do apply, follow Schedule 2.
It Is the Whole Car, Not One Row
On this model year a single condition moves the entire schedule to Schedule 2. The current CX-5’s manual does something different: it maps each condition to specific items and leaves every other row on its normal interval. Two different models of severe service, and neither may be written the other one’s way — which is the main reason this page exists separately from its parent.
Flexible and Fixed Are a Separate Question
Mazda’s flexible engine-oil maintenance is offered to U.S.A. and Puerto Rico residents whose car is not operated with extended periods of idling or low-speed operation, such as a police car, taxi or driving-school car, and is not driven in dusty conditions. Where either applies, fixed maintenance is followed — engine oil and filter every 5,000 miles or 6 months — even on Schedule 2. So the 5,000-mile oil figure is not the severe interval for every CX-5 driven in severe conditions.

Schedule 2 — Severe Driving
The severe-driving table for this model year, whose brake and chassis rows are tighter than the model year before it.
Every 5,000 Miles or 6 Months
Engine oil and filter on the fixed basis, disc brakes, engine coolant level, brake and clutch fluid level, tire inflation pressure and tire wear, function of all lights, all locks and hinges lubricated, and washer fluid level. Tire rotation runs at the same cadence and is printed as a sentence: rotate every 8,000 km (5,000 miles).
Every 15,000 Miles or 18 Months
Fuel lines and hoses, brake lines, hoses and connections, steering operation and linkages, front and rear suspension with ball joints and wheel bearing axial play, driveshaft dust boots, and the bolts and nuts on the chassis and body. The same rows sit at every 15,000 miles or 24 months on Schedule 1 — the mileage matches and the month figure does not, which is exactly why the two tables are quoted separately.
Cabin Air Filter — 30,000 Miles
Mazda prints, on this model year’s Schedule 2: replace every 48,000 km (30,000 miles) or 2 years. It is a Schedule 2 figure and is stated here as one; Schedule 1 replaces the cabin air filter every 15,000 miles or 24 months.
The Longer Severe Rows
Every 20,000 miles or 24 months — drive belts. Every 30,000 miles or 36 months — air filter, and hoses and tubes for emission. At 35,000 miles or 42 months, once — exhaust system and heat shields. Spark plugs and engine coolant carry the same figures they carry on Schedule 1, and the emergency flat tire repair kit is inspected annually. Mazda adds one note to the severe air filter row: if the vehicle is operated in very dusty or sandy areas, clean and if necessary replace the air filter more often than the recommended intervals.
