The 2026 CX-5 has one table: a single maximum interval of 16,000 km (10,000 miles) or 12 months, with eight columns at 10,000-mile increments counting how many times a service has been performed. Seven conditions, each mapped to specific items rather than to the whole car: (a) idled for long periods or driven at low speeds, such as police cars, taxis or a driver’s education school car; (b) driven mainly on unpaved road or in dusty areas; (c) driven mainly on mountain roads or uphill roads; (d) regularly driven too short distances for engine warm-up to complete; (e) driven under extremely high temperature conditions; (f) driven for long periods in cold temperatures, extremely wet or heavy rain conditions; (g) brakes used extensively, such as continuous hard driving or mountain driving, or the vehicle operated in extremely humid climates.

The 2026 book maps each of its seven conditions to specific items — engine oil and filter, engine air filter, drive belts, brake fluid — and leaves every other row on its normal interval no matter which conditions apply.
What Actually Shortens the Oil Interval
Three of the seven conditions, and only three: (a) idling or low-speed use, (b) unpaved or dusty roads, and (c) mountain or uphill driving. Any of those moves the engine oil and filter to 5,000 miles or 6 months. None of the other four conditions touches the oil interval at all.
What Gulf Coast Driving Actually Changes
Mobile-area driving plausibly matches conditions (d), (e), (f) and (g). Read against Mazda’s own 2026 matrix, those move the drive belt inspection to every oil change and the brake fluid to an annual replacement — and they do not move the oil change to 5,000 miles. Engine Oil and Filter — Every 5,000 Miles or 6 Months
Mazda prints: replace at every 8,000 km (5,000 miles) or 6 months, at half the above maximum interval. This is the same mileage the 2017–2025 generation used for its fixed-oil severe figure, carried through the generational change.
Engine Air Filter — No Stated Mileage
Mazda prints no mileage at all for the severe engine air filter: “Clean and, if necessary, replace as required.” This is a genuine change in shape, not just in number — the 2017–2025 generation’s severe air filter did carry a mileage, 30,000 miles or 36 months, and the 30,000-mile normal figure on this page must not be quoted as if it were the severe one.
Drive Belts — Every 10,000 Miles or 12 Months
Against 30,000 miles or 36 months on the normal table. The 2017–2025 generation’s severe drive-belt figure was 20,000 miles or 24 months against its own 22,500-mile normal figure — a narrower gap than the 2026 CX-5’s.
Brake Fluid — Replace Annually
Against 20,000 miles or 24 months on the normal table. The 2017–2025 generation had no brake fluid replacement row on either its normal or severe table — only a level inspection — so this override did not exist in any form on the earlier CX-5.
These are the whole of the 2026 CX-5’s severe schedule.
