Mazda3 Hatchback Trims in Detail

What’s New This Model Year
The Mazda3 Hatchback carries five trims, two engines, two drivetrains and the only manual transmission in the Mazda3 range. The change that reaches every trim this year is the audio: Mazda Harmonic Acoustics eight-speaker sound is now standard equipment lineup wide. Dean McCrary Mazda stocks that lineup on the I-65 Service Road in Mobile.
Eight Speakers, Standard Across the Lineup
Mazda Harmonic Acoustics eight-speaker audio is standard on every Mazda3 Hatchback trim this model year, from the 2.5 S Select Sport through the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus, with a Bose upgrade still available at the top of the range.
A Six-Speed Manual, Exclusive to This Body
The 2.5 S Premium pairs the naturally aspirated engine with a front-wheel-drive Skyactiv-MT six-speed manual. It is the only manual gearbox in the Mazda3 range and it is not offered on the Mazda3 Sedan at all.
All-Wheel Drive on Two of Five Trims
i-ACTIV AWD® comes on the 2.5 S Carbon Edition and the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus. The 2.5 S Select Sport, 2.5 S Preferred and 2.5 S Premium are front-wheel drive — the opposite of how every CX-family Mazda is configured.
A Reduced Carbon Edition Price
Mazda published a lower price for the 2.5 S Carbon Edition part-way through this model year. The trim ladder above shows the current MSRP, not the launch figure.
Two Engines, Three Ways to Drive
Unlike the CX-family SUVs, the Mazda3 Hatchback does not share one powertrain across its lineup. The engine changes at the top of the ladder, the drivetrain changes twice, and one trim in the middle changes the transmission, so read each card with the trims it names.

Safety & Technology
Equipment below is listed with the trim it arrives on, because the drivetrain, the engine, the gearbox and the audio upgrade do not all arrive at the same point on the ladder. Availability can change during a model year — confirm the equipment on a specific vehicle with our team before you buy.
Mazda Harmonic Acoustics Audio
Eight-speaker Mazda Harmonic Acoustics audio is standard from the base 2.5 S Select Sport. It is the system every Mazda3 Hatchback carries unless it has been upgraded.
All-Wheel Drive Without the Turbo
The 2.5 S Carbon Edition is the one trim that pairs i-ACTIV AWD® with the naturally aspirated engine, alongside its blacked-out exterior treatment.
Skyactiv-MT Six-Speed Manual
The 2.5 S Premium is the only Mazda3 of either body style built with a manual gearbox. It is front-wheel drive and it uses the naturally aspirated engine.
The Turbocharged Engine With Standard AWD
The flagship trim is the only place the 250-hp turbocharged engine and i-ACTIV AWD® arrive together, with a Bose audio upgrade available on top of the standard eight-speaker system.
Dimensions & Capability
A five-passenger compact hatchback. Seating and cargo volume are the same on every trim; the drivetrain and the gearbox are not.
Five Passengers
Two rows and five seats on every trim, in a body with a hatch rather than a trunk lid. The Mazda3 Sedan is the same car with a smaller opening and its own inventory.
20.1 Cu Ft Behind the Rear Seat
20.1 cu ft behind the rear seat and 47.1 cu ft with the 60/40-split seatback folded — materially more than the Mazda3 Sedan’s 13.2 cu ft trunk.
Front-Wheel Drive, or AWD on Two Trims
Three trims are front-wheel drive; the 2.5 S Carbon Edition and the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus carry i-ACTIV AWD®. Filter for the drivetrain you want on the Mazda3 Hatchback inventory page.
3-Yr/36,000 & 5-Yr/60,000
A 3-year/36,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, standard on every new Mazda.
Mazda3 Hatchback Exterior Colors
