MX-5 Miata Trims & MSRP
MX-5 Miata Trims in Detail
MSRP includes destination and delivery. Excludes tax, title, license, a $895 dealer documentary service fee and a $16.50 tag fee.
What’s New This Model Year
The MX-5 Miata is the one model in the Mazda lineup with no all-wheel-drive option at any trim — it is rear-wheel drive, full stop, and that is the point of it. Three trims, one engine, a six-speed manual as the default and an automatic on exactly one trim. Dean McCrary Mazda stocks the lineup on the I-65 Service Road in Mobile.
Rear-Wheel Drive, No AWD Offered
Every other nameplate Mazda sells here is either all-wheel drive as standard or offers it on some trims. The MX-5 Miata offers it on none, which is what makes it the roadster it is rather than a small crossover with the roof cut off.
A Manual on Every Trim
A six-speed manual is standard on the Sport, the Club and the Grand Touring. The Grand Touring is the only trim that offers a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters as the alternative.
One Engine Across the Lineup
A 181-hp SKYACTIV®-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder on regular fuel, identical on all three trims and both transmissions. Horsepower is not something you buy up the ladder for.
Soft Top Here, Hardtop on the RF
This page covers the soft-top roadster. The MX-5 Miata RF is a separate model with a power retractable hardtop, its own two-trim ladder and its own inventory.
One Engine, Two Ways to Shift It
Because the MX-5 Miata lineup shares a single engine and a single drivetrain, the output figures below are the same whichever trim you choose. The transmission is the one thing that changes, and it changes on one trim only.
SKYACTIV®-G 2.0
- 181 horsepower at 7,000 rpm
- 151 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm
- Regular unleaded
- The same output on all three trims and both transmissions
Rear-Wheel Drive, Six-Speed Manual
- Rear-wheel drive on every trim — no all-wheel-drive option is offered
- A six-speed manual standard on the Sport, Club and Grand Touring
- A six-speed automatic with paddle shifters available on the Grand Touring only
- Two seats, front-engine, rear-drive layout
29 MPG Combined
- 26 mpg city / 34 mpg highway with the manual
- 26 mpg city / 35 mpg highway with the automatic
- 29 mpg combined either way
- The same rating on every trim
Safety & Technology
Equipment below is listed with the trim it arrives on, because the transmission choice and the performance package are not offered on every one. Availability can change during a model year — confirm the equipment on a specific vehicle with our team before you buy.
The Manual-Only Base Trim
The Sport comes with the six-speed manual and no automatic option. It carries the same 181-hp engine and the same rear-wheel-drive layout as the trims above it.
The Brembo BBS Recaro Package, Available
The Club is the trim that can be optioned with the Brembo BBS Recaro Package — braking, wheel and seat hardware aimed at track use. It is manual-only.
The Only Trim With an Automatic
The Grand Touring is the one place a six-speed automatic with steering-wheel paddle shifters is offered, as an alternative to the standard manual. It does not offer the Club’s performance package.
Comfort Rather Than Track Hardware
The top trim trades the Club’s performance package for comfort and convenience equipment. Both trims share the same engine, the same drivetrain and the same EPA figures.
Dimensions & Capability
A two-seat roadster with a manually folding soft top. Every figure below is shared across all three trims.
Two Seats
One row, two seats, a fabric roof you fold by hand from the driver’s seat. The MX-5 Miata RF is the same car with a power retractable hardtop and its own inventory.
4.6 Cu Ft
4.6 cu ft of trunk space — slightly more than the RF’s 4.5 cu ft, because the folding hardtop mechanism takes room the soft top does not.
Rear-Wheel Drive Only
There is no all-wheel-drive MX-5 Miata at any trim. If you want all-wheel drive in a Mazda, the CX-family SUVs carry i-ACTIV AWD® as standard equipment.
3-Yr/36,000 & 5-Yr/60,000
A 3-year/36,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, standard on every new Mazda.
MX-5 Miata Exterior Colors
Colors shown are the national palette Mazda publishes for this model year. Availability varies by trim and by what is on the ground — tap a color to see the matching MX-5 Miata inventory, or ask our team what is in transit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the MX-5 Miata available with all-wheel drive?⌄
No. The MX-5 Miata is rear-wheel drive on every trim — it is the one model in Mazda’s current lineup with no all-wheel-drive option at all.
Can I get an automatic MX-5 Miata?⌄
Yes, but only on the Grand Touring, which offers a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters as an alternative to the standard six-speed manual. The Sport and the Club are manual-only.
How many MX-5 Miata trims are there, and what do they cost?⌄
Three. Pricing runs from MSRP $31,665 on the Sport to MSRP $36,965 on the Grand Touring, each MSRP including destination and delivery. The figures shown are for the six-speed manual; the Grand Touring’s automatic carries its own MSRP, which our team will quote on a specific vehicle.
How much trunk space does the MX-5 Miata have?⌄
